“But
remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce
wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it
is today.”
Deuteronomy 8:18.

The world is getting fast in progress technologically and materially.
The people are getting rich and rich, mansions are seen everyplace, cities are
decorated with numerous buildings and establishments, expensive vehicles are
plenteous that running to and fro all around, bountiful products displayed in
the markets and in every corner of the cities, great amount of moneys are in
the banks from the diligent and dexterous people. All these are works and
efforts of strength and wisdom that appear as the product of man’s own personal
endeavor. It is something to be proud of by man. Here, man mind puffs up and
the heart gets proud.
Looking the picture of the
condition above, there is abundance in human life and because of that magnificent
technologies and progress as result of man’s work, man is not a just but
appears to be powerful and intelligence individual that has something to be
proud of. Man appears to be has the right to claim those great things as his
own as a result of his endeavor. This feeling and thinking have deceived many
people. Man looks all these things as their product. This feeling and thinking
blurred the minds to acknowledge God’s providence and claims and this pushed
more people to become proud, self-centered, selfish, and greedy. Since man
forgets God because of that, they forget God’s command: to love, share, and
help one another and to involve in God’s business.

In the chapter of the passage,
God warns the Israel of the probable things to happen to their minds and heart,
He said; “
be Observe the commands of the
Lord your God…for the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land (where
milk and honeys flows freely
)…be careful
that you do not forget the Lord your God…otherwise, when you eat and are
satisfied, when you build houses and settled down and when your herds and
flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is
multiplied , then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord
your God… You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have
produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your Lord, for it is he who
gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he
swore to your forefathers, as it is today (Deut. 8:6, 7,11-14, 17,18).

This warning is a warning to all
people of today also. Not to forget the Lord but acknowledge Him as the one who
gives all: strength, power, wealth, and life. If only people acknowledge God as
the one who gives all we have, man becomes humble and obedient, and
compassionate and generous, diligent and competent for he knows that it is God
who provides according to His purpose. Let us acknowledge God always!
